After Rin on the Roxx, another Filipino American talent got featured in Youtube’s spotlight and rising video sections. His name is AJ Rafael and his ticket to the spotlight is his original composition “Those Lips”.
The first time I saw and heard AJ Rafael was in the video where he and Cathy Nguyen played their rendition of Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat.
I definitely enjoyed his music and it was through him that I found out other great young Filipino American talents. Youtube’s got a treasure trove of great Filipino talents and I had a blast listening to all of them, their original compositions and as well as renditions of famous songs.
This one is Gabe Bondoc, not sure if he’s related to Jimmy Bondoc (probably?), with his original composition “Superhuman”. His mellow voice is great and his music is very relaxing, the kind of songs you’ll hear on some lite jazz or easy listening radio station. Do check out his other videos in youtube, all of them are great!
This one is Kris Mark, I also enjoyed his music specially his original composition ‘Who is She’ featuring CP, Kinh Nguyen and Mat Clores. The song is on the upbeat side, but he also has other slow songs in his repertoire.
Ever thought of Jason Mraz having chinky eyes? Well, check out Mike Isberto playing ‘Pretty Girl’, with Marlon Sese and you’ll see how Jason Mraz would look like if he was Asian. Do check out his youtube channel for other videos.
This next lovely lady is Melissa Polinar singing her original song ‘Brave Face’. Her music is a mix of soul, jazz, blues and pop and you can definitely feel the emotions from her voice. I also like her other song ‘One of a kind’.
This next one is Randolph Permejo singing his original composition ‘44 minutes’. Randolph’s music style is R&B, he’s got a really cool voice. He kinda reminds me of Jay Durias from South Border.
J.R.A or JR Aquino’s style is also on the R&B side and he’s kinda the combination of Usher, Ne-Yo, and Chris Brown. Check out his original ‘Can’t Get Enough’ and ‘Blame Me’ (both the acoustic and the original sound track are great!).
He just goes on by the moniker RuSoul, but his real name is Russell Ivan Isberto. He’s the brother of Mike Isberto. His music style is also on the R&B side and he also reminds me of Jay Durias. Check out his original song below ‘Angel’
And last but not the least, another lovely lady, Renabette San Antonio with her original composition ‘Unexpected’
These guys are just a sample of the treasure trove of great Filipino American artists. You can find a lot more from their respective myspace and youtube pages below.
